Alseta Gholston
Alseta Gholston is an education and workforce development professional whose passion is cocreating strategies that result in opportunities for marginalized communities to thrive from educational and economic development and advancement. Her experience includes the coordination and management of both domestic and international education projects, as well as workforce policy and programing. She currently works at AARP where she contributes to program management, development, and strategy for a collaborative learning initiative for industry leaders to understand the business case for age-inclusivity in DE&I policies that are supportive to older workers.
Previously, she has worked for A Wider Circle, a local community-based organization, where she coordinated direct-service job search training and assistance programs that served unemployed and underemployed job seekers with barriers to employment. Prior to that, she worked for DC’s Workforce Investment Council with the responsibility of approving, evaluating, and assessing eligibility for the District’s list of Eligible Training Providers offering federally funded occupational training for job seekers. She has also worked on school health and advocacy for K-12 education policy at ASCD and at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE), and the Academy for Educational Development (AED) in the areas of teacher training and international education.
Alseta received a master's degree in International Training and Education and bachelor's degree in Spanish and Latin American Area Studies from American University in Washington, D.C. Her professional interests are in adult education and training, the Future of Work, community development, and implementing human rights education as a tool for social transformation.
